Vintage sports jacket at Torquato
Another working day in Düsseldorf and enough time for me to stroll around Kö. My way led me to Torquato, one of my favorite shops when it comes to true quality products.
They offer a pretty cool Covert Coat by Magee I'd like to buy for the springtime but that's a different story...
I was lucky enough to run into Torquato's Managing Director, dressed as dapper as ever.
Please take a closer look at his moleskin trousers and his vintage Mark Marengo sports jacket with slant pockets and a beautiful check.
Btw: He'll spend the next weekend in London for some sale shopping. I must confess that I'm a little bit envious...

Book review: One Hundred Years Of Menswear
Dear readers,
first of all, please welcome my latest follower Stefan Kröger. Stefan, welcome to Inner City Style!
I have been off for a couple of weeks what I do regret. But here are the reasons for my absence: A lot of work, forcing me to spend my lunch breaks in the office instead of taking pictures on KÖ (in combination with bad weather conditions in Ddorf), nothing relevant to blog about, spending the evenings with my little familiy.
But as things are getting better (and posting becomes an addiction, as you guys know), I'll promise you'll soon find a lot of new stuff as coming events cast their shadows. On the weekend of 5-6th of February, famous CPD will be in town just like every year, attracting hundreds of fashion related folks to visit Düsseldorf. A great opportunity to take pictures and write about the latest trends in fashion and clothes design.
But back to my review:
As you guys know that I'm collector of books about fashion, here's my latest purchase:
"One Hundred Years Of Menswear" by Cally Blackman.
This book takes its readers on a journey through the history of men's fashion starting from the 19th century to today's designers, revealing a lot of insights about how different styles did develop through the centuries.
The book is divided into two periods: 1900-1939 and 1940 until today (what was 2009). Each period is broken down into six themes, "chosen because they were important at a particular point in history."
For 25 Euros you will get over 300 pages of pictures of clothes, advertisements and illustrations from fashion magazines. Eyery chapter comes with an insightfull explanation about the why and when of men's fashion with a lot of pictures I saw for the first time.
One of my favorite chapters is "Media Star" as it holds a lot of info about the fashion styles of many different movies, TV series and celebrities, from "The Thomas Crown Affair", to "007", "Shaft" and even "Miami Vice".

Book review: The New English Dandy
Dear readers,
this is one of my Christmas presents: The New English Dandy by Alice Cicolini.
As you know that I'm a collector of books about fashion, this one was on my list for quite a long time, even though the cover's not very inviting (of which more later).
The main problem with most coffee table books is that you won't find any pictures of the content on the Internet. Neither on Amazon nor somewhere else.
And that's why I'd like to share my insights about this book with you.
TNED is pretty big of size. Same as "Dressing The Man". If you take a closer look at its cover, you might find it a little aggressive, as it shows Mr. Nordmann in a very arrogant pose I don't like . But, as you know, I'd never judge a book by its cover.
Alice Cicolini asks the question, what it is, that makes the dandy in the 21st century and shows us the beginning of man's fashion referring to well known dandies like Beau Brummel and Oscar Wilde, who both had a more or less big say in man's clothes.
You'll find a lot of interviews with designers, tailors, etc. and a lot of pictures of english men, trying to look as best as they can.
"The New English Dandy" is fairly inspiring to me, with a few exceptions.

Feel like a sailor: Time for a Pea Coat!
Dear readers,
I never really considered to buy a pea coat. Never. Ok, I liked the shape, its historical background and stuff, but that was all.
Than yesterday, like I don't know what, the desire for possessing one suddenly manifested in my mind.
So I did check out the nextdoor NATO shop (it's really called like this) for the range of items to fulfil my wish.
They had black ones, deep blue ones with golden buttons and than, at the far end of the shelf, deep blue ones with blue buttons. So as I ain't no officer, I went for the blue/blue one.
The funny thing about the sizes I found out yesterday, so I tried on size S first (I wear a UK 40) and it was perfect. Ok, the shoulders are slightly too wide, but that's alright for a jacket that did cost me only 60 Euros.
Material: Heavy wool, very thick. You won't need an extra jacket underneath it.
I'll wear it tomorrow and tell you how it feels like.

Latest sale: Lumberjackin' across the universe.
Dear readers,
today at H+M, while trying on an ill-fitting grey windowpane suit, I ran into our wellknown fella Spoozy. He reminded me of the current sale that was going on. So I rushed back to the shelfs and snatched this pretty cool Lumberjack vest (just like Spoozy did) for only 15 Euros, what is quite a bargain.
Funny coincidence, as I just learned today once more in Germany's most important fashion trade magazine "Textilwirtschaft" that Lumberjack fashion will be THE big thing in Autumn 2011 (like it was in 2010, 2009 and so on...).
Well, I'm less a man of fashion, more a man of style, but this vest is so cool I couldn't resist.
And what about this cap?
Right, I got the beard already. So next things I need is an axe and yellow braces.
And hands that are bigger then my head.

Vintage clothes: My old Barbour.
Dear readers,
this is the jacket I love and hate.
I bought my Barbour Beaufort some years ago, 22 years to be precisely. We both have been trough a lot of struggle, like barbed wire fences at paddocks, tons of rain and even London's chilly autumn. I put a fake fur in it, bought a hood, gave it new waxing a few times, stiched its holes and treated it well.
It always did its job perfectly but I always had the feeling it was way too big for me.
The label said 48, of what I thought was a German 48 (38 in UK measures). So when I found out an UK's 48 was for a fat guy (I wear 40), I was pretty disappointed of the sales man, who didn't know the right sizes of English clothes and did sell me a sack jacket.
That was the point, when I decided not to trust recommendations of clothes sales men any longer. I figured that most of them are always wrong when it comes down to style, sizes, dessins, well, everything. So now, the only three guys I do trust, is me, myself and I.
Today I still like to wear my old Beaufort, because it does not have the name stiched on the left pocket's flap, has the original tartan check and has this killer patina you can't buy.
On the other hand, every time I wear it, I know that it's too big for me.
But 2011 will be the year to buy a new one. Or maybe I could ask the Barbour guys to do some size alterations? What would you do?

Rearranging my bars.
Dear readers,
first of all, welcome to my blog, Masood Khan.
I did a few changes in my bars in the past days. I've bought a little this and that but I'm not finished as you can imagine.
In my decanters you'll find J&B Scotch, a nice Sherry, some liqueur and some kind of Schnaps (I got no idea what it might be...).
And I did stock up my globe with some Brandy, Scotch, Jägermeister and Underberg. Still enough room :-)
