Reader's question: L.L.Bean's Shipping costs.

Question came in from Anon, concerning my post about my new L.L.Bean Field Canvas Duffle:

Anonym3. Mai 2014 10:42

Hi, may i know how much was the shipping cost to Germany? Greetings

Hi Anon, (I'll answer in English, if that's ok for you)

first of all, thank you for reading my blog! It's good to know that you guys are out there!

And I'm happy to answer your question:

L.L.Bean provides all the information about international shipping right here.

The Field Canvas Duffle comes with a price of 99 US$, which means 35 US$ shipment, if you order shipment by "International Airmail".

The really interesting part starts at your local customs office (Zollamt), as you have to pay import sales tax or Einfuhrumsatzsteuer.

This will add an extra of 19% to your costs!

In my case it was:

Field Canvas Duffle: 97.10 US$ (I had a 10% gift card discount + 8 US$ for monogramming)

+ Intl. Shipment: 35 US$

= 132.10 US$ = 95.23 Euros + 19% Tax = 113.32 Euros

And to be honest: 113 Euros is a bargain for what you get!

Compare this price to any other Duffle you see in the German shops. You won't find a better one.

So place your order today! You'll have to wait 3-4 weeks, but it's worth it!

Best,

Mike

Reader's question.

Question came from Anon on 26th April 2014 17:02

"Say, where did you get these saddle shoes from ? They are great."

Nice to know that you like them!

These shoes are called "Buchanon" and do come from G.H.Bass & Co.

I was looking for saddle shoes for quite some time and found them on the pages of German mail-order-company Zalando. But they don't sell them anymore.

More brown, blue and khaki.

So I'm back at my desk after a great weekend in the lovely town of Mayschoß, which is famous for its winegrowing.
Here's my get-up for today: A corduroy jacket, a checked shirt, chinos and some brown bucks.

How to put together a jacket and sneakers.

A nice jacket by Cinque (micro houndstooth check).

D-ring belt and some chinos.

My blue Vans Authentic. I'm a Skater. So what?!

Vans and Burlington.

I've bought this square at Pal Zileri a few years ago.

Client Meeting today. AND: Day of German Beer: The Reinheitsgebot.

Brown suede for Business :-)

Read and learn:

The German Reinheitsgebot (Wikipedia):

The Reinheitsgebot (German pronunciation: [ˈʁaɪnhaɪtsɡəboːt], literally "purity order"), sometimes called the "German Beer Purity Law" or the "Bavarian Purity Law" in English, is a regulation concerning the production of beer in the Holy Roman Empire and its successor state, Germany. In the original text, the only ingredients that could be used in the production of beer were water, barley and hops.

The law originated on 30 November 1487, when Albert IV, Duke of Bavaria promulgated it, specifying three ingredients – water, malt and hops – for the brewing of beer.

Later, in the city of Ingolstadt in the duchy of Bavaria on 23 April 1516, two other dukes endorsed the law as one to be followed in their duchies, adding standards for the sale of beer.

The earliest documented mention of beer by a German nobleman is the granting of a brewing license by Emperor Otto II to the church at Liege (now Belgium), awarded in 974.
